The Sisterhood of New Amsterdam

While most of Schaefer’s novels take place in the First Story continuity, the Sisterhood of New Amsterdam novels are a side project set in their own universe, a realm of urban fantasy inspired by the history of New York City and by Greek mythology and drama. Dubbed “Percy Jackson for adults” by more than one reviewer, they explore a world drenched in lost history, lurking gods…and magic.

There are currently two parallel stories unfolding. The Ghosts of Gotham novels follow a professional skeptic and hoax-debunker on the trail of a lost story by Edgar Allan Poe, a lure that leads him down into a metaphorical and literal underworld. The Midnight Scoop involves two Brooklyn reporters on the trail of a conspiracy, as a cache of lost letters between George Washington and Alexander Hamilton casts new light on the true story of the American Revolution. A war is unfolding in the streets of New York, a battle to control the narrative of history itself, with the gods of Olympus pulling the strings.
